Well this was certainly entertaining. Just for informations sake; I read this book directly after book 3. I did not do that with the other novella. This was kind of bittersweet. It was funny and sad. It had me laughing at Puck’s antics and sighing at the Winter Prince. I am not sure how things are going to play out with the infamous 3. Will Puck be okay in the friendzone for all of eternity? Will he betray Ash once and for all? Will Ash revoke his oath to kill Puck? So many questions! This novella shows the scene’s AFTER Meghan found Beau in the 3rd book. It was lovely and i’m sure has something to do with the next book. Read it if you can :)Product details

Summer Crossing The Iron Fey edition by Julie Kagawa Children eBooks Reviews
This novella takes place in between The Iron Queen and The Iron Knight; in fact it reads somewhat like an episode cut from the beginning of the latter for length.
So if you are reading the Iron Fey novels, do you absolutely need to read this?
IMHO, no. I suspect that the reason it was cut in the first place is that it contains nothing you absolutely need in order to understand anything that occurs in the fourth book; however, that doesn't make it useless or uninteresting to Iron Fey Series fans.
In this episode we get considerable detail from Puck's point of view about Ash and Meghan and his feelings about same. We also get evidence that Meghan's true father, Summer King Oberon, who revealed in Winter's Passage that he cares a lot more for her than he's been willing to admit, cares a whole lot less about her happiness than the preceding might have led us to believe. We get the calling in of the rash promise Ash made to Leanansidhe, Queen of the Exiles, in the previous book, and we get the REAL reason for the "road trip" suddenly proposed by one of the characters on page 351 of the fourth book. (Clearly, the other character's guess is revealed to be wrong.) Perhaps the most intriguing information not revealed elsewhere is how Puck reacted to the temptation to see his fondest (and darkest) dreams come true.
So what it comes down to is that if you loved the Iron Fey series, you will want to read this before you read the fourth book.
Note Non- users finally have an alternative The Iron Legends Winter's Passage\Summer's Crossing\Iron's Prophecy collects this along with the two other -only novellas Winter's Passage and Iron's Prophecy, and users who haven't already purchased the other two novellas separately can opt for the version of the collection The Iron Legends Winter's Passage\Summer's Crossing\Iron's Prophecy.
Note The question has been raised whether this can be categorized as Steampunk; IMHO based on the first three books, the answer is no, though there are "steampunkish" elements.
I Picked this up as a free download in the store because A Midsummer Night's Dream is my favorite play and it looked like something fun to read before bed.
This was so well written that I didn't even realize it was a YA book (trust me, it's been a few decades since I was one)
This book features the clever, naughty and always inappropriate Puck in all of his, well... puckish glory and weaves in many characters of legend.
I was disappointed when I had finished reading it because I wanted more.
So yeah... I'm a middle aged woman who is going to be reading a Harlequin Teen series of books.
So, not many people at my high school read for leisure. Our library was filled in the morning only because it was seen as a hang out area for the socially awkward and those who just liked libraries, so that image of “we don’t really enjoy reading” was a very prominent thing and an expected thing from the football players of my high school varsity team. They hadn’t got the time, right? Wrong! You see, this series was introduced to me by one of the linebackers--he was twice my size--form my high school at lunch. i was standing in line behind him and saw him reading it and, out of curiosity since i was of the few that DID enjoy reading for leisure, asked him what it was and he lent the first book to me that day since he just finished it. When i tell you this book changed my life. If you’re looking for that teen fantasy book then is this series the one for you. There’s love interest between best friends and new men, secrets about who someone is, kidnapping, the whole works! Then, of course, there’s the fairies, or Fey as she calls them. Based off of Shakespeare Midsummer Night’s Dream characters--but not all of them--this thrilling, fantasy story throws you into the world of the characters the old man didn’t and should have mentioned, taking Fey just a step further in her Iron Fey series. Simply amazing. I read them all already and now i plan to own them all next. 10 out of 10 would recommend!
A novella from Puck's perspective! Summer's Crossing was so much fun! It picks up right where The Iron Queen ended. Ash and Puck are off to find Grimalkin, but they're interrupted. Ash owes Leanansidhe a favor and she's ready to collect. Right now! Now, the odd couple are off to the Summer court, where Puck must pull off the ultimate heist sneak in the Winter prince, steal from Titania, and sneak back out without getting either of them killed. Plus there's the matter of Oberon planting a seed in Puck's head to off Ash in order to win Meghan's heart. This mission would be the perfect opportunity to do so.
I really enjoyed Summer's Crossing. Puck has been a great supporting character and it was awesome to finally get into his head. He is the ultimate trickster and he's just hilarious! While their mission was super, duper dangerous (at least for Ash), it was also super funny. Titania and Lea's little war is so ridiculous! If you're a fan of this series, I would not recommend skipping this short!
